wonderful - i have painter but i still find it too difficult to use, it feels often like i have much less control over everything and when soemthing goes wrong i cant seem to find any history section where i can reverse the error like one can in photoshop. may i ask how did you approach painter - what did you find as the best way to work it? - do you perchance use particular brushes ie acrylic? is there a way i can apply washes like i would a real painting?

The history section in Painter is the same as in the many other programs. Just press Ctrl+Z as many times as you set the amount of 'undo' levels in options: edit>preferences>perfomance>undo levels (in painter 12).
As for me, now I rarely use the Painter, there is other painting programs which more interesting for me.
But Painter is a very nice software too, there are many different brushes and tools. My favourite brushes in Painter is oils section (especially round camelhair), soft oil pastel, wet pencil (real watercolor section). Also Painter have very good blenders. I think, Painter is good for digital painting, but there is very difficult to create really nice imitation of traditional mediums.
